March 28-April 2nd

We again appreciate all those helped us run the meet with Herriman and Providence Hall last Monday!  And other than a few timing issues and a bitter cold day, the meet went well.

This week we only have the Alpha Invite at Timpanogos on Wednesday and Thursday.  The majority of the team will not be attending this meet, so plan on practice as normal.  Those who will be attending will be checked out of school early those days and buses will be here at 12:15 on Wednesday and 1:15p.m. on Thursday.  The meet starts at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday and 3:00 p.m. on Thursday.

Congrats to the following athletes for hitting State qualifying marks at Copper Hills Invite on Saturday: Rylee Parkinson in the High Jump and Maren Jones in the Shot Put.

Rylee Parkinson won the Girl's High Jump and Taylor Jorgensen won the Girl's 1600 meter.

The Boy's 4x800 team also won (Jaren Barnes, Conner Pedersen, Nathan Horsley, and Keatyn Perkins)

Our Girls team won the meet and our Boys team was 5th!

Congrats to the following for setting new event school records:  Rylee Parkinson - Girl's High Jump, Grace Tycksen - Girl's Javelin, and Adam Wightman - Boy's Pole Vault!

Alpha Meet Info and schedule is HERE

Those who ordered spirit packs in mid February, they should be here mid-week.

Herriman at Mountain Ridge.

Thanks to all the parents and athletes who helped us put on our first meet with Copper Hills.  Other than a few timing and results issues that delayed our start, and that nasty cold wind, things went pretty well.

We are hosting Herriman at our place Monday afternoon at 3:30 p.m..    All athletes need to be completely eligible, including fees paid, and have received a uniform.  Athletes are expected to compete in multiple evets that day and help run the meet.  Athletes should be present the entire meet, ether competing, helping, or cheering on their teammates in different events.  No one should leave early!  It is supposed to be the coldest day of the week, so dress warm.

We would love some parent help again putting on the meet.  Please let the coaches know if you are able to help out.  Here are some main things we can use help with:

Clerking at the starting line

Running results from the finish to the box

Data Entry in the booth

Helping with field events (Javelin, Shot Put, Discus, Pole Vault,

High Jump and Long Jump).

Even if you aren't super familiar with an event, we can help instruct you in assisting with it.

We also have the Copper Hills Invite this weekend.  The entries to this will be limited to top performers in each event.  The coaches will determine who will compete and in which events.

First Track and Field vs Copper Hills

We have our first meet scheduled on Wednesday at our place vs. Copper Hills at 3:30 pm.  All athletes need to be completely eligible, including fees paid, and have received a uniform.  New athletes, and those returners, who need uniforms need to pay the uniform fee and have a proof of that payment to show Coach Barnes at the time of pick up.  Athletes are expected to compete in multiple evets that day and help run the meet.  Athletes should be present the entire meet, ether competing, helping, or cheering on their teammates in different events.  No one should leave early!

The team spirit pack store has been reopened through Monday.  If you want gear jump on this link and get it ordered before it closes.  It will take about a month to get gear once it closes.

Track and Field Begins

Track and Field starts this week with all other spring sports.  There are no tryouts for Track, however we expect those coming out to be very committed and follow the team guidelines in order to be, and stay, a part of the team.  Registermyathlete is required for trying out for a sport, so we expect this to be completed before practice starts day 1.

We (all athletes) will meet in the weight room at 2:50 p.m. everyday.  High schoolers need to make sure they are on time and 9th graders need to get there ASAP.  We will have practice everyday until 5:00 p.m..  Watch the weather to see how you should dress throughout each week.  You are expected to make practice a priority everyday, not being at practices and communicating with the coaches could result in you being cut from the team.  Communicate any and all reasons you might miss a practice with the coaching staff.  But you should be finding excuses to be there and work hard.

Also, be aware that many athletes have been out training for several weeks, and even since the new year.  Those who have chosen not to join pre-season practices will likely be behind in some fitness and will likely need to work hard to build that fitness, while at the same time taking extra care of your bodies so you don't get hurt.

Eligibility -  Everyone is expected to have registermyathlete completed before coming out Monday for practice, this includes adding your 2nd quarter report card and a current physical.  Once you have finished RMA you will be allowed to pay your fees of $100 for participation.  These fees will also be added to skyward to pay online once RMA is completed.  You will have until March 4th to complete all eligibility requirements, but please do not wait until the last minute.  We will be putting together our final roster by the end of the first week so that we can manage eligibility.  You will not be able to pay for your uniform until all eligibility is complete.  Uniforms will not be given out until a the end of the second week of the season.  Make sure to sign up for either Boy's Track or Girl's Track and not Unified, Unified is for special needs only. See the links below:

Uniforms - Those who need a uniform will pay a fee of $50-$80 once the your eligibility is complete.  This can be done in the main office or they can put it on skyward for you.  Again, you must have completed your eligibility in order to pay for and receive your uniform.  Coach Barnes will give those out at practice the second week, prior to our first meet.  If your uniform is still in good condition from last year and still fits properly, then you do not need to purchase another one.  If you need a part of a uniform (jersey or bottoms) then you must talk to Coach Barnes and find out how much you need to pay.  He has a form you will take to the office for any partial purchases.  Uniforms are for competing only and should not be worn at practices!

Spike Week- Good training shoes, and spikes for racing and competing are very important.  Run Gr8 Running Center in Riverton will do a team discount starting today, so if you need trainers and/or spikes hurry over there during their business hours while supplies last.

Spirit Packs -  We have already had two team stores so far.  However, if enough of you would like to buy gear still we can open it this week again.  Once it closes the items will be ordered.  Plan on about 4-5 weeks once the store closes to receive your items.

If you are sick, stay home!  But please always communicate this with the coaches.
