JV Region, BYU Invite, and April 27-May 2

We have JV Region at Riverton on Tuesday at 2:00pm, so the buses will leave at 12:45pm, and athletes who are competing will be checked out about 45 minutes before that time. Only JV athletes who have not solidified a spot at Region next week, and have actually been attending practice regularly will compete and be excused.

We are going to the BYU Invite on Friday and Saturday, start time is 7:00am both days.  Those who are accepted into BYU, if we have enough athletes to take a bus, it will leave at 5:30am both days.  Entry to the meet for spectators will be at byutickets.edu.  The schedule and overview info is on sporttrax, please be familiar with it if you are accepted for this meet.

We had a a good week last week as team at Copper Hills with the JV and Wildcat Invite on Friday.

The Wildcat Invite was a good meet for us and we had a lot of athletes that competed hard and hit good marks. Both our boy and  girls teams were 2nd place.

Congrats to the following for hitting State Q marks this past week at Wildcat: Paisley Grant- Discus.

Congrats to the following for winning over all this past week at Wildcat: Tyson Strauss - 110m Hurdles, Lexi Jarvis - 300m Hurdles, Savanah Haynie - 3200, Milo Webb - Long JumpIsaiah Ortiz - Javelin, and Boys 4x100 (McKrae Renteria, Milo Webb, Caden Olivares, Easton Bosh)

Congrats to the following for setting new school records: Tyson Strauss - 110m and 300m Hurdles, Milo Webb - Long Jump

From Coach Barnes:  So for this upcoming school year I will be teaching Sports Medicine periods 1,2, and maybe 3 for 11th and 12th graders.  And Intro the Health Science periods 5, 6, and maybe 7 for grades 10-12. Both are full year classes, with Sports Medicine being a CTE credit class and Intro to Health Science (basic anatomy) fulfilling the .5 Health credit for graduation and .5 CTE credit.  I always highly recommend taking Health Science over Consumer Health, especially for those who might be semi-interested in any kind of medicine or health care type careers. I would love for my athletes to come take my classes, and fill them up with some students that I already know.  Plus, I would love for all of my athletes to be familiar with the concepts and curriculum taught in each class. Keep this in mind as arena scheduling comes up in the next week.

I would also like to see all athletes in a weights class if schedules permit.

Westlake, Davis, and April 13 -18

We have a home meet this week with Westlake, and Davis Invite on Saturday.  We will have 2 meets a week for the next 3 weeks.  Farmington Invite had some good highlights for us and good marks, but the second half of the meet ran way late and we ended up leaving at 10:30pm before it finished.  Thanks to all those who came to compete and watch and stayed for so long.  The meet had issues and hopefully they resolve some of those things for the future because we have always liked going to that Invite.

Congrats to the following athletes who hit State Q marks at Phoenix Invite: Isaiah Ortiz- Javelin, Boys 4x200 - Mckrae Renteria, Caden Olivares, Easton Bosh, Milo Webb.

Congrats to Milo Webb for breaking the school record in Long Jump!

We will have a dual meet at Mountain Ridge Wednesday afternoon at 3:00 p.m..  Athletes should be present the entire meet, either competing or cheering on their teammates in different events.  No one should leave early!

We have a SIGN-UP for parents to sign up to help with the events on Wednesday. There will be two 2 hour time slots to choose from for each event.  Coaches can help train parents how to work events if they are inexperienced.  We of course want you to be able to watch your own athlete compete, so we will make that possible. We appreciate all the help we can get, so that we can run a smooth meet.

All athletes will be checked out early so they can dress, help set up their events, and to give them time to warm up once we are set up and ready to go.  We need everyone to help.

Davis Invite is Saturday and is a by invitation from them meet, we submit athletes and marks within their standards and they choose who will compete based on how many slots they have for each event. The best heats will compete in the afternoon session and everyone else will compete in the daytime.  We will have one bus going up at 6:30am.

As soon as 3rd Quarter grades are posted, that report card needs to be uploaded to RMA/aktivate in order to be Eligible.

Also, we asked for parents and athletes to please review the Team Disclosure found on the Eligibility Page, (that was signed by each of you on registermyathlete), so please do so if you have not yet.  Please pay particular attention to the sections on Conduct and Parent's Role, as well as Attendance.

We hope everyone had good Spring Break and a Happy Easter, and were still able to get some good training in.

March 30-April 4

Spring Break is all this week.  Parents and Athletes, please do not take a break from training!  We are at a critical point in the season for solid consistent training. We will hold practice everyday during the break.  Those practice times may vary based on events and coaches, and we will comminate those times for this week on the event groupmes.  If you are heading out of town for any or all of Spring Break, please please please communicate that with your event coach and get alternate workouts from them.  If you are in town there will be practice and you are expected to attend!

We had some good things happen at the JV Copper Hills meet and UVU Invite last week.  We had a lot of good marks all around the team in every event, and we are showing a lot of improvement in competing and in our attitudes.

We will not have a meet this week because of Spring Break, so we will take advantage of some solid training time between now and our next meets on April 10 and April 15.

Congrats to the following athletes who hit State Q marks at UVU Invite: Hyrum Wightman- Pole Vault, Ammon Wright Pole Vault Annika Riddle - 200 meter, and Tyson Strauss 300m Hurdles.

Congrats to Tyson Strauss for breaking the school record in the 300m Hurdles.

March 23-28

We had a good week again last week with our home meet with Cedar Valley and at the Mountain Valley Invite at Spanish Fork on Friday.  It was good to see everyone compete, and we had a lot of athletes doing very well.
We talked about being tough and working on more positive attitudes in practice this week, and athletes seemed to be better toward the end of the week.  Let's continue to work on this as we go throughout this season.
We appreciate all those parents that came to help at the meet on Wednesday, many hands make light work, and some parents helped a lot.  The meet ran very smooth, and the parent help was a big part of that.  Thank you!   Also, thanks to all the parents who donated and brought snacks for the athletes at the meets!

Congrats to the following athletes who hit State Q marks at Mountain Valley Invite: Milo Webb - Long Jump, and Annika Riddle - 300m Hurdles.

The UVU Invite is Friday starting at 2:00pm, buses will leave at 11:45am, and starts at 10:00am on Saturday, with the bus leaving at 8:00am.  Schedule

We will still have practices next week during Spring Break, although the times may change according to events.  Those leaving town for Spring Break next week should still be training, and need to communicate with coaches as to what they should be doing everyday.

Kaysha Love Bio   Hunter Powell Bio

We are excited to welcome Coach Kaysha Love and Coach Hunter Powell to our Mountain Ridge Track and Field Staff!  Both coaches recently returned from competing in the Milan Cortina 2026 Olympic Winter Games in Italy.  Both Coach Kaysha and Coach Hunter bring a wealth of experience and expertise to our staff.  Kaysha Love is a 2-time Olympian and 2025 World Champion.  Hunter Powell is also an Olympian, and is former Decathlete, with several years experience in coaching Decathlon events at Colorado State University.  We feel very blessed, and excited, to have the these professional athletes join our staff!  Plus they are amazing people!

We had our first meet at Early Bird Mountain View Invite on Friday and Saturday.  We had good weather and competition, and our team did very well with a lot of good marks and even some PRs, in all our events.  We are excited to get going this season and see our young team progress.
