Track and Field starts this week with all other spring sports. There are no tryouts for Track, however we expect those coming out to be very committed and follow the team guidelines in order to be, and stay, a part of the team. Registermyathlete is required for trying out for a sport, so we expect this to be completed before practice starts day 1.
We (all athletes) will meet in the weight room at 2:50 p.m. everyday. High schoolers need to make sure they are on time and 9th graders need to get there ASAP. We will have practice everyday until 5:00 p.m.. Watch the weather to see how you should dress throughout each week. You are expected to make practice a priority everyday, not being at practices and communicating with the coaches could result in you being cut from the team. Communicate any and all reasons you might miss a practice with the coaching staff. But you should be finding excuses to be there and work hard.
Also, be aware that many athletes have been out training for several weeks, and even since the new year. Those who have chosen not to join pre-season practices will likely be behind in some fitness and will likely need to work hard to build that fitness, while at the same time taking extra care of your bodies so you don't get hurt.
Eligibility - Everyone is expected to have registermyathlete completed before coming out Monday for practice, this includes adding your 2nd quarter report card and a current physical. Once you have finished RMA you will be allowed to pay your fees of $100 for participation. These fees will also be added to skyward to pay online once RMA is completed. You will have until March 4th to complete all eligibility requirements, but please do not wait until the last minute. We will be putting together our final roster by the end of the first week so that we can manage eligibility. You will not be able to pay for your uniform until all eligibility is complete. Uniforms will not be given out until a the end of the second week of the season. Make sure to sign up for either Boy's Track or Girl's Track and not Unified, Unified is for special needs only. See the links below:
Uniforms - Those who need a uniform will pay a fee of $50-$80 once the your eligibility is complete. This can be done in the main office or they can put it on skyward for you. Again, you must have completed your eligibility in order to pay for and receive your uniform. Coach Barnes will give those out at practice the second week, prior to our first meet. If your uniform is still in good condition from last year and still fits properly, then you do not need to purchase another one. If you need a part of a uniform (jersey or bottoms) then you must talk to Coach Barnes and find out how much you need to pay. He has a form you will take to the office for any partial purchases. Uniforms are for competing only and should not be worn at practices!
Spike Week- Good training shoes, and spikes for racing and competing are very important. Run Gr8 Running Center in Riverton will do a team discount starting today, so if you need trainers and/or spikes hurry over there during their business hours while supplies last.
Spirit Packs - We have already had two team stores so far. However, if enough of you would like to buy gear still we can open it this week again. Once it closes the items will be ordered. Plan on about 4-5 weeks once the store closes to receive your items.
If you are sick, stay home! But please always communicate this with the coaches.
